A Ritual for Congested and Break-Out Prone Skin

Breakouts can occur when pores become clogged, or as result of the skin producing excessive sebum. Skin experiencing congestion requires resurfacing actives which support healthy pH and promote cell turnover. 

What it is: Congestion and enlarged pores are common skin concerns, often linked to excess oil, debris, or dead skin cells blocking pores, leading to a dull appearance and irregular texture. This can result in breakouts, blackheads, or a compromised skin barrier.  

How to recognise: You may notice clogged pores, a rough texture, or blackheads, especially around the T-zone. Skin may appear uneven or dull, and makeup may not sit as smoothly.  

Which actives it needs: Exfoliating acids, like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and salicylic acid improve skin texture, clear congestion, and minimise pores by balancing the skin’s pH. The ideal skin pH is slightly acidic, supporting enzymes critical for collagen and elastin synthesis, while preventing breakdown, sensitivity, breakouts, and infection.  

As skin becomes more alkaline with age and environmental damage, it loses its ability to maintain these functions, leading to premature aging. Regular use of hydroxy acids helps recalibrate the skin’s pH, counteracting these effects. Hydrating ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid lock in moisture, keeping the skin plump and healthy.
